Acupuncture Clinic
Acupuncture
is being offered as a sole treatment or part of a physiotherapy
management, combined with other physiotherapy modalities such as
ultrasound, as well as exercises and manual therapy.
More and more third party Insurance companies and Worker Safety Insurance boards are recognizing the effectiveness of acupuncture, enabling patient treatments to be billable under most health and wellness plans
Evidence of Acupuncture is presented in the chapter about Medical Acupuncture as well as Evidence Based Medicine.

What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture treatment involves inserting very fine needles into specific points in the body.
According to the theory of Traditional Chinese Medicine it encourages natural healing and pain relief by promoting harmony within the body.
The Chinese medicine approach to acupuncture includes concept such as Yin and Yang, the five elements and recognizes 365 points precisely situated along meridians.
Western medical practitioners have developed several approaches such as Medical Acupuncture, Bio-energetic Acupuncture and the Anatomical approach to acupuncture by combining traditional Chinese concepts with Western medicine. Substantial research was done on the physiological effects of acupuncture (e.g., released of endorphins, serotonin, and cortisol )
Are there any other treatment methods that provide the benefits of acupuncture without using needling?
We offer several treatment options that can stimulate acupuncture points for you to choose from such as Laser therapy, electrotherapy (Codetron, TENS) and/or manual acupressure / trigger point therapy.
These therapeutic options are suited for sensitive patients, children, those that fear needles or if acupuncture treatment is contraindicated because of specific conditions
Although at many clinics the above alternative treatment options are administered by a physiotherapist, chiropractor, or medical doctor who were not trained in acupuncture, only well trained practitioner can appropriately localize the points and choose their good combination !
How does acupuncture work?
Traditional Chinese Medicine followers will describe that acupuncture works by simply "unblocking" trapped energy (Qi), thus allowing the balance to return to its balanced state.
The modern science has shown that acupuncture promotes blood flow to the treatment areas, stimulates gray nucleus and hypothalamus in the mid brain, releasing endorphins and enkephalins, it also triggers the Gate Mechanism of pain control at the level of spinal cord, and stimulates pituitary glands to initiate cascade reaction resulting in release indigenous hormones suppressing inflammation .

What to expect during an acupuncture treatment
- Usually acupuncture treatment requires insertion of 2 to 15 needles, being left in a body for 15 to 30 minutes.
- Only disposable needles are being used.
- At times electrical stimulation isnadded to increase intensity of the treatment.
- Patients can experience different sensations during treatment but acupuncture generally produces relatively little pain.
- The depth to which a needle penetrates varies from less than 0.5mm to 75mm.
